The Glove Factory includes Somerset’s first zero carbon home

Connells estate agency is delighted to announce the launch of The Glove Factory, Yeovil’s first sustainable housing community by developer ZeroC. The developer of these new homes is dedicated to promoting an all-encompassing sustainable lifestyle, so the new homes not only incorporate the latest technology, they offer buyers the opportunity to switch to a lower cost, low energy lifestyle through their location and features like integrated workspaces so residents can work from home.

Thirteen of the new homes at The Glove Factory meet the new Code for Sustainable Homes (CSH) standard where properties are rated on a scale of one to six. Indeed one has been designed to achieve a code six rating making it the first commercially-built property in Somerset to achieve 100% carbon emissions reduction including appliances. The development also includes two CSH level four homes and ten CSH level five homes.

Features of the new homes at The Glove Factory include biomass and solar thermal heating, free electricity generated by photovoltaic roof panels, high levels of thermal insulation and grey water recycling. Water saving measures such as duel flush toilets, low water usage showers and aerated taps in bathrooms are also incorporated delivering significant savings on water bills.

“At The Glove Factory in Yeovil, we’re not just offering buyers a new home, but a complete lifestyle change,” says Craig Bates, Associate Director for ZeroC. “Technology and new building techniques are clearly an intrinsic part of sustainability, but so too are things like location. The new homes available at The Glove Factory are ideally situated with Yeovil town centre on one side and the open countryside on the other, so residents can easily travel to shops, amenities and public transport networks on foot or by bike. Yeovil railway station is directly linked by a short cycle track from the homes making it easy to be less reliant on a car.”

The CSH level six home at The Glove Factory offers a glimpse into the future of development as all new homes must be carbon neutral by 2016. “In many ways, the homes at The Glove Factory are paving the way for sustainable development which is set to become a requirement rather than a novelty,” Craig continues. “At the current time, the type of features this property includes are highly beneficial to buyers who will qualify for the Government’s Clean Energy Cashback scheme Feed in Tariff, not to mention the significant saving they will make on energy costs.”

There are 37 new homes available at The Glove Factory ranging from one-bedroom apartments to five bedroom houses. Jeremy Smith, Branch Manager for selling agents Connells in Yeovil had this to say: “We are delighted to be selling these fantastic, high specification new homes,” says Jeremy. “Each property at The Glove Factory has been stylishly designed and many incorporate state-of-the-art sustainability features. I believe the energy savings the homes offer will make them highly attractive to buyers.”
