The vendor has provided comments of the history of the boat "Originally built in 1898 and is a Humber Keel Barge. She is a "dumb" barge which means she never had an engine or sails; instead she was rafted together with up to 11 others and then the raft was manoeuvred with tugs. She carried Coal on the Humber and Grain on the Orwell before becoming the Clubhouse for Stoke Saling Club. The lower hull has been shuttered and then lined with granite enriched concrete. The upper hull and original decks have been spray foam insulated on the inside. The outer walls in the hull are damp and heat insulated with plenty of spaces left for air circulation. Downstairs the stud/interior walls are clad with fire retardant flooring boards. The decks have been hot tar sealed on the outside and approx. 64sqm of decking and balcony constructed over that on a metal box frame.
